Moving Forward

Moving On is an 8-week ‘personal growth’ program for gay, bisexual, trans and questioning guys over 40 coping with the challenges of being married, separated or single.

8 consecutive Friday evenings starting February 10 (ending March 30) at the HIM office 6.30pm to 8.30pm

This is a ‘closed group’ presented by Hominum and an entry interview is required to make sure the group will be a good fit for you.

The program:

Week 1 – Who am I? (self-disclosure) and Getting to know you – meeting other guys – online and face to face hook ups

Week2 – Living in a ‘straight man’s world’ – understanding heteronormativity, surviving and thriving with internalized homophobia.

Week 3 – Transitioning between cultures – coming out, or not, is a constant process several times a day.

Week 4 – “We are not all gay men. We are ourselves” – finding myself, while meeting people in different gay/bi/trans environments

Week5 – What is a “gay relationship”  - managing different levels of relationship: getting in, getting out and having fun.

Week 6 – Affection, feelings and emotions: men who have sex with men – I hate the labels, but I love the sex.

Week 7 – White privilege – being gay and from an ethnic minority – minority stress and intersectionality

Week 8 -  Keeping healthy – self-esteem –keeping secrets about addictive behaviors - issues of drug and alcohol misuse –stress management –        

 (the last meeting will be followed by a social evening with other members of Hominum at The HIM offices)

HOMINUM is a supportive self-discovery discussion group that has been helping guys in BC's Lower Mainland with the challenges of being married, separated or single for over 25 years. At its core is a profound respect for the individual wherever he is.
