It's more than the gym. Whether you're taking your first yoga class, choosing healthier foods or deciding to quit smoking, physical health is an important part of gay men's lives. This section provides resources, articles and information about how you can live a longer, healthier life. We also have listings for our Professional Volunteers who specialize in physical health.

Homophobia....differing individual or societal beliefs....or just having a different emotional or mental make-up than ours.... sometimes there are people who want to harm us. Although you may bear no ill will to others, it's important that we have the knowledge and the skills to protect ourselves (and/or our friends and loved ones) when we encounter dangerous situations.
Avoiding a threatening situation is ideal, but in the event of an unanticipated threat, it is necessary to have the confidence and be empowered with the required tools and resilience to deal with a possible physical confrontation.
This free two-session workshop will increase your awareness to threat cues that will keep you from a potentially harmful event. You will learn simple techniques that will empower you to safely escape an assailant and avoid any physical harm. The focus is to create enough distance to ensure safety and to render assistance when necessary using these defensive maneuvers.
Lead by Jonathan Santiago, who's been a Peace Officer for 18 years and an instructor of Self-defense and Use of Force. He's been a course facilitator/instructor for law enforcement, government agencies and public organizations as well as a volunteer instructor for various organizations for over 30 years. Aside from being active in several team sports, he's also an avid mountaineer, hiker, and climber. We're thrilled to have Jonathan share his expertise and experience with us.
