Clinical Services Update

The HIM Health Centers are offering the same services again as pre-pandemic.

Starting April 11, 2022, we are shifting to Walk-In appointments (only for HIM on Davie Health Center).

A walk-in appointment is recommended if:

  • You are having any STI symptoms
  • You have tested positive for an STI and need treatment
  • You have been told that someone you have had sex with has tested positive for an STI
  • This is your first time testing for STIs and/or HIV
  • You have had a possible exposure to HIV in the last 72 hours and DO NOT have MSP. (For those that have MSP we ask you to go to St Paul’s Emergency Room as time [72 hours] is a crucial factor in starting with PEP!)
  • You need to pick-up harm reduction supplies (i.e. condoms, lube, syringes, pipes, safer snorting kits, etc) Click here for information on how to order the supplies.
  • Medical grade masks are required when visiting the HIM Health Center. If you do not have a mask, we are happy to supply one to you when you get to the health center. This is to comply with the local health authority guidelines.

The HIM on Davie Health Center is open for Walk-Ins from Monday to Thursday between 3pm and 9pm (last time slot at 8:30pm) and on Friday and Saturday between 10am and 4pm (last time slot at 3:30pm). Our time slots fill up quickly after we open so coming as close to our opening time will improve your chance of being seen that day.

If all time slots are filled for the day, we will ask you to return on another day.

If you have any COVID related symptoms we kindly ask you NOT to come to the HIM Health Center and come back later!

EXPRESS TESTING:

If you require ROUTINE TESTING, you are able to book an appointment for Express Testing.

An express testing appointment is recommended if:

  • You have had a HIV or STI test before.
  • You have no STI symptoms
  • You do not need an Rapid HIV test (Instant Test)
  • You have not been a contact to any STIs/HIV
  • You have not had a high-risk exposure to HIV in the last 72 hours
  • You do not want to start PrEP,
  • You do not need a vaccine
  • You do not have any questions for a nurse

Express testing is done by a lab technician, who will collect your samples and tell you how to get your results.

Express Testing appointments are available 7 days in advance. If there are no appointments available when you try to book, all of these appointments are booked.  We recommend that you check back early next day, when more timeslots become available.

Click here if you would like to book an appointment for Express Testing.

PrEP related questions and appointments

If you are an existing PrEP client of HIM on Davie and need to cancel, reschedule or have questions about your appointment, call 604-675-2767.

If you would like to start PrEP, have been on PrEP in the past and want to restart PrEP, or have moved from another province and need to move your PrEP care to BC, please stop by the HIM Health Center Davie during clinic hours to arrange a walk-in appointment to talk to a nurse to start this process.

The HIM on the Drive Health Centre:

The HIM on the Drive Health Center is hosted in the basement of the REACH Community Health building at 1145 Commercial Drive. The HIM on the Drive Health Center is open on: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 5 pm to 9 pm. (Last client seen at 8.30pm) For HIM on the Drive you are able to do a walk-in or book an appointment, using our on-line booking system. Click here if you would like to book an appointment. We are currently able to book 7 days in advance. If you don’t see any available timeslots, it means they are all booked. We recommend that you try again later.

Everyone visiting the Health Center is still required to wear a medical grade mask (not N95) as per the guidelines of our local Health Authority.  If you do not have a medical grade mask, we will happily provide one when you arrive.

HIM Health Centres in the Fraser Health Region:

Currently we are NOT accepting any appointments or walk-ins for the HIM Health Centers in the Fraser Health Region (Surrey, Abbotsford, and New Westminster). We are working with Fraser Health Authority to re-open the HIM Health Centers as soon as possible.

If you need to be seen urgently (e.g. have STI symptoms or require treatment) please call the Fraser Health Central Booking Line to access a sexual health appointment at 604-476-7087. The nurse will ask you a few questions and if needed set up a time and location for you to come in and get tested.
