Movement & Mindfulness

Our bodies are the living mechanism we use to do everything in life. The more we know ourselves the greater access we have to the unique value within each body and its motion. Through playful and dynamic activities this workshop will provide a safe space to recover lost potential through movement exploration. Participants will start getting in touch with their own bodies and their possibilities of movement; breathing and voice; emotions and self-regulation through the five senses; visualizations and imagery exercises; reconnecting with a sense of creativity, imagination and confidence. Self-acceptance comes from self-knowledge and practicing mind-body awareness can bring us to live a freer life. Acknowledging our movement patterns and honouring our stories, how they are linked with the others and how we can find support within the community.Through embodiment practises we will step towards learning ways to embrace, accept and enjoy who we are.

Description of the Sessions:

Each session will incorporate an opening circle; grounding exercises; movement exploration tasks incorporating visualization and imagery; group connection; and closing circle. May 21st – Session 1 My body in motion: movement possibilities and potential Embodiment practices contemplating each part of the body and its possibilities of movement. Exploring the ranges of possibilities between polarities (fast-slow/ floor-air/ small-big, etc). Stepping out of the known movement patterns the participants will explore further possibilities within their bodies.June 4th – Session 2 Connection: environment and communityUnderstanding the concept of kinesphere: my vital range of movement in the space. Exploring the relation between my body and the environment or surroundings including other people. Exploring the physical-mental-energetic body. Human mirrors (mirroring exercises); finding support in my relationships.June 18th – Session 3 Emotions: Coming back to my breath Emotional intelligence practices through embodiment. Emotions as indicators of where or how to move ahead. Breath as an indicator of calm or anxious states and how to use it to be more present in my body. Allowing emotions to flow through exploring the Emotion Wheel (designed by Robert Plutchik)July 2nd – Session 4Outspoke: voice and body storytelling Exploring the relation of body-voice-sound, recognizing the value of speech and the relation between words-mindset (Neuro-linguistical programming NLP). Storytelling with the body and the possibility of rephrasing memories to achieve deeper understanding of our power of choice in our present body. July 16th – Session 5 My creative potential: expanding horizons Creativity as a tool to overcome situations and finding silver linings and different solutions to daily life situations. We are creative beings that lost the playful imagination while growing in environments that didn’t foster creativity. Reconnecting with a sense of creativity as a human right despite age, profession and socioeconomic situation. July 30th – Session 6 Queer embodiment: this is me, the possibilities of the Self. A session to incorporate the learned experience of the workshop and keep deepening into the possibilities of Being: self-image, self-knowledge and self-acceptance. Providing space to reflect on the life journey and how to keep the experience of the workshop alive on a daily basis to continue the process of unlearning patterns and redefining the self as it evolves and changes over time. Recommendations:– Is recommended to bring a journal or paper to write the reflections or insights that arouse during the workshop duration.Waiver:– This workshop will incorporate movement and if you are not used to it it can be overwhelming physical or emotional, (KNOW THAT THIS IS NORMAL). And if this happens during the class it is important to stop or take a break if there’s any pain on the body or an emotional overwhelming trigger and notify the instructor.

 
NOTE: This class is not a technique dance class but a movement exploration class with a dance therapy basis (it is not dance therapy).

This group is open to self-identified men (trans, cis, and other men), two-spirit and non-binary folks who also identify as gay, bi, queer, asexual, and/or as guys who are into/or have sex with guys (for any reason – including for work).
