Aligning Purpose to Serve Our Communities

Businesses and corporations have great access to resources, power, and influence, which gives them a unique opportunity to make a positive difference in our communities. At HIM, we’re excited to explore partnerships with businesses that recognize their social purpose and are committed to being true allies to our communities.

Allyship Beyond Pinkwashing

Pinkwashing, also known as “Rainbow Washing,” refers to the practice of using surface-level messages that appear supportive of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community for purposes that don’t truly align with genuine 2SLGBTQIA+ equality or inclusion. This often happens in marketing, where businesses might show outward support without engaging meaningfully with the community. The impact of pinkwashing can be harmful, eroding trust and contributing to the community’s frustration. Today, 2SLGBTQIA+ people are increasingly calling for more than just lip service. They want businesses to demonstrate real, meaningful allyship, and we want to help!

At HIM, we believe in the power of consensual allyship (Jessica Yee Danforth, 2011) which focuses on collaboration and shared liberation, rather than one-sided assistance. This approach ensures that the voices and needs of the communities are prioritized, and that allies remain accountable to those they seek to help. Consensual allyship contrasts with more traditional forms of allyship by focusing on consent, shared power, and ongoing accountability.

We’re excited to collaborate with corporate partners who are committed to moving beyond pinkwashing and are eager to engage in a meaningful way. We offer a range of workplace engagement opportunities, from capacity-building workshops to fun and engaging activities, all designed to raise awareness about the challenges our communities face and how you can be an effective ally. We’re here to help tailor these experiences to meet your unique needs and goals.
