Become a Health Leader in Your Community

Investigaytors is a community health leadership program for gay, bi, queer men and gender diverse people (GBQ) who are interested in health research. It equips GBQ people with social connections, health knowledge, and community-based research skills they need to be health leaders in their communities!

By participating in every step of the research process, program participants gain tangible research skills, learn about queer health, and connect with other young GBQ and gender diverse people. The primary objective is to provide participants with hands-on research experience, grounded in the principles of community-based research.

Investigaytors Groups:

Program participants learn about quantitative and qualitative research skills, social determinants of health, HIV prevention and sexual health, and the utility of research in addressing health inequities and knowledge gaps. 

This year, the Investigaytors program will be running sessions on community-based research, the history of queer research, queer research methodology, and will be having a focus on mental health, and how the Covid-19 pandemic has affected that mental health for GBQ men and gender diverse people.

A community-research program with presentation-style learning, group activities, and guest-speakers with topics related to community-based research. Come learn, connect with like-minded individuals and contribute to community research by completing your own research project!

FAQs

Each weekly session is 120 minutes long. The program will run until March 2022. 

The group sessions will run on Thursdays from 6-8pm on a weekly basis, but are subject to change. 

 

The group sessions will take place at the HIM Health Centre on Davie Street in downtown Vancouver. 310-1033 Davie Street.

Yes! There will be snacks and food provided. 

Absolutely! That’s part of the reason the Investigaytors program exists! It’s for everyone that is interested in health research and wants to get involved in their community.  

No formal training or background is required. 

Nope, no homework! Everything is done within the weekly sessions.

Nothing! This is a free community research program.
