While sex can be a lot of fun, it can also be a significant source of stress. Whether that’s because we’re having too much or too little for our liking, or for a wide range of other issues, it’s clear that our sex lives can impact our mental health (or the other way around!). Because gay life isn’t always smooth sailing, it’s good to talk to someone about whatever may be troubling you, things you are coping with, or stuff you are trying to sort out.
HIM has 3 resources to help you out with a variety of issues going on in your life:
HIM offers a counselling service to gay men, staffed by professional counsellors from our communities who volunteer their time. HIM uses a “solution focused model” in their 8-session service. Our counsellors aim to create a safe, welcoming environment where you can safely and confidentially explore difficult personal issues. Services are provided by donation.
HIM’s Change Advocate program works to alleviate stress and the mental health concerns of gay men. Change Advocates can assist in reaching goals in areas such as fitness, exercise, nutrition, weight loss, sexuality, relationships, self-esteem, stress management, coming out, finances, budgeting, and career development. Services are confidential and facilitated by trained peers from HIM who are supervised by a HIM staff member. This is a no-cost service although donations are always appreciated.
HIM runs a variety of therapeutic groups, which are designed for men who want to work on their self-development and personal growth. Groups are facilitated by trained professional therapists who volunteer with HIM. Participant numbers are carefully restricted to allow each member of the group to have time in the group sessions. Connects you with another gay guy to talk to, someone personable, someone who is a great listener. This is a no-cost service although donations are always appreciated.
