HIM is a nonprofit society that aims to strengthen the health and well-being in communities of self-identified GBQ men and gender diverse people in BC.
Embracing Art as a Medium to Promote Health and Wellbeing
Art and queerness intersect in vibrant and transformative ways, creating a rich tapestry for exploring and expressing identities that transcend conventional boundaries. By celebrating queer experiences and challenging societal norms, art not only fosters individual wellness but also strengthens a supportive community that empowers and uplifts. HIM believes that art can be a powerful medium for redefining the way health promotion is done within our communities. Therefore we invest in innovative approaches that harness the power of art and artists to advance community health.
How We Approach Art Collaborations at HIM
HIM collaborates with queer artists from a range of backgrounds, experiences, and artistic disciplines to develop dynamic and impactful spaces that promote health. We actively seek opportunities within our programs and through our community partnerships to leverage art and creative expression in innovative and compelling ways. Our goal is to transform health promotion, engaging the communities and populations we serve with fresh and inspiring approaches. This includes:
- Collaborating with visual artists to transform physical spaces to include art installations geared toward health promotion;
- Collaborating with performance artists to engage our communities around important health promotions;
- Hosting art in our clinical and community spaces; and
- Developing social health programs that are centred around art.
